Why You Should Book Your Old Treasury Building Wedding Early

One piece of advice I always give couples is to book their wedding ceremony at the Old Treasury Building in advance. Given its popularity, dates can fill up quickly, especially during the peak wedding season.

The Ceremony Rooms At The Old Treasury Building

At the Old Treasury Building, couples can choose between two distinct rooms for their wedding ceremony: the Margaret Craig Room and the Thomas Hyde Room. These rooms hold special significance as they are named after the first couple to have their marriage officially registered by the Victorian Marriage Registry in 1853, as stated by Births Deaths and Marriages Victoria.

Old Treasury Building Margaret Craig Room

  • Walk up the aisle surrounded by loved ones
  • Ideal for ceremonies with up to 55 guests
  • Elegant décor and tasteful floral arrangements
  • Tasteful music can be provided, or couples can bring their music and Bluetooth speaker

Old Treasury Building Thomas Hyde Room

  • A small, intimate ceremony with up to 8 guests
  • Elegant décor and tasteful floral arrangements
  • Option to make an entrance, no designated aisle
  • Tasteful music can be provided, or couples can bring their music and Bluetooth speaker.

How To Book Your Wedding Ceremony at The Old Treasury Building

Booking a room at the Old Treasury Building for your wedding ceremony is straightforward. It is advised to reserve your wedding ceremony with the Victorian Marriage Registry at least one month before the selected date to ensure a hassle-free experience. However, if you want to get married at the busiest time of the summer, I advise booking your space three months in advance. By doing this, you can make sure that your dream wedding at the Old Treasury Building becomes a reality and steer clear of any last-minute disappointments.

To learn more about the booking process, refer to the Births, Deaths and Marriages Victoria booking page.

The receptionist was very kind and entertaining. I do enjoy looking a little bit of history. The place looked very modest. I was expecting a lot about banknotes, coins but instead I saw things on lost jobs, women at war, and some old furniture. Overall it’s still quite nice
Are you getting married here soon? For the last half a decade, I’ve photographed tons of wedding ceremony here and finally I’m leaving a google review! It’s a true preservation of classic architecture, with stunning details here and there, from the grand staircase to the intricate moldings, every corner of this building is photo-worthy. It’s the perfect backdrop for a classic, timeless wedding! There are a few different sized room so whether you’re having a small, intimate wedding or a larger one, they can help make it happen!Oh, and let’s not forget the building facade and the shadows cast by the structure around the stair / fence outside, these are yet another highlight and photo opportunity!Whether you’re shooting during the day or in the evening, you’ll find that the building’s exterior and shadows cast by it adds a unique touch to your photo! If you wanna know more about some tips then hmu!

The Old Treasury Building in Melbourne is a historic landmark that is rich in history and well worth a visit. The building was impressive and well-preserved, with a lot of detail and intricate architecture. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable, providing a wealth of information about the history of the building and the city. However, I felt that we didn’t have enough time to fully explore the building and take in all it has to offer. The building is also home to a museum and art gallery which are worth visiting, but we couldn’t see everything in one visit. The Old Treasury Building is a great way to learn about the history of Melbourne and Australia. If you’re interested in history and architecture, I would highly recommend visiting the Old Treasury Building, but allow enough time to fully explore the building and its exhibits.

The facade is currently under restoration but you can still visit on regular opening hours. I loved reading the history of Melbourne and seeing accompanying old historic photos and illustrations. The massive replica nugget on display is a nice bonus too.

This place is amazing! Quite apart from the beautiful old building designed by a 19 year old, the museum blew me away. It is underrated and a hidden gem. We found it by accident during Open House Melbourne and was astonished by the depth and detail in the history that was display. I highly recommend every Victorian/Australian visit this place. There was so much information with photos, original documents (the executioner’s book!), news articles and personal stories. The people who put this together should be commended, they have done a fantastic job – it is up-to-date within the last few years. It is not publicised very well and the map location pin is not accurate for the entrance, but it’s a must see! I want to go back.
